IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!
Interceptor and Sentinel production has come to a standstill because of a possible malfunction with their non-blister packed medications at their Nebraska manufacturing plant. They have voluntarily shut down the plant to address this issue. Novartis has ensured us that the Sentinel and Interceptor were never at risk and the FDA has allowed Novartis to distribute the entire stock from their warehouse. Unfortunately, even that supply is very limited and they have no idea when the plant will reopen and production will begin again.
Because of this shortage, and not knowing when production will start again, we have unfortunately been forced to limit the sale of Interceptor and Sentinel to our clients. We feel this is practicing the best medicine and care for all our patients. We will only sell one (1) tablet per pet per month until production has been fully reinstated.
The doctors are happy to sugguest other trusted heartworm preventatives such as Heartgard Plus or Revolution in the meantime. Switching to these medications is safe and will protect your pet from heartworm disease and intestinal parasites.

Our Hero, Zach Kettell
-- Posted by Shirley on Friday, September 9 2011
We would like to give Zach Kettell a big THANK YOU!! This fine young man sold lemonade at his Lemonade Stand and told his parents he wanted to donate the proceeds to St. John Animal Clinic. Zach's parents relayed to me that he was so thankful when Dr. Cooper stayed after hours to work on his cat, Felix, who had a life threatening urinary blockage that he wanted to give something back.
We asked Zach for permission to turn around and donate his money to an Angel Fund which helps give medical care to stray animals. He was very excited about helping other pets.
Our doctors frequently stay after hours to care of our client's four legged family members. Although they have received many warm and sincere "Thank yous", this one was very special. There was not a dry eye in the clinic after Zach left; what an amazing young hero!
We recommend year round heartworm prevention
-- Posted by Shirley on Monday, April 11 2011
Reasons Why We Recommend Year Round Prevention:
Does your dog go for walks and sniff the ground or eat things off the ground? This is the way intestinal parasites (worms) are transmitted from one animal to another. Monthly prevention will help to prevent & control intestinal worms as well as life-threatening Heartworm Disease which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) also recommends monthly year round intestinal parasite prevention for pets to help prevent the transmission of certain parasites to children, especially roundworms and hookworms. Additionally, the American Heartworm Society strongly recommends year round prevention. Heartworm infection and intestinal parasites are the most preventable diseases, and yet we still see many cases of heartworm and intestinal worms every year. Heartworm infection is on the rise across the country. Approximately 68 of every 5000 cared-for dogs annually become infected with heartworms. In the U.S., the infection rate is 1-2%, with some areas much higher. If you give your dog year-round heartworm prevention, we can test your dog’s blood at their annual wellness check/vaccination appointment and you won’t have to make a special trip in the spring for the blood test.
In addition, the drug companies which manufacture the preventatives only guarantee their products if given year round. There are also frequent rebates for the purchase of a year’s worth of prevention. If desired, we also have preventatives which can also control fleas and ticks. Please ask us about these!
